Terrestrial Laserscanning in Deformation Measurements of Structures

چکیده
Terrestrial laserscanning broadens its application area in the civil engineering industry. This paper discusses the potential of the technology through the example of the deformation measurement of a new Hungarian bridge on the Danube during its load testing procedure. The paper discusses the complex procedure from the field measurement through primary data processing and the analysis of the laserscanned data. Comparison analysis between laserscanning and the traditional geodetic methods (such as high-precision leveling) is also described. For the accuracy analysis, laboratory deformation measurements have been carried out. During the controlled load testing of a full-scale steel portal frame each load phases were captured by terrestrial laserscanner. The displacements of dedicated points of the structure were measured by high-precision inductive transducers; thus the results of both methods can be directly compared. The paper is completed by a mathematical modeling of the error propagation of the measurement and the most relevant quality features are derived. By computing the accuracy measures of the terrestrial laserscanning the overall technology can be qualified and calibrated. Terrestrial laserscanning has proved its potential in such engineering projects. Data can be acquired about areas, not only about discrete points. In case of sizeable structures, such as bridges, information can be gathered about remote areas and points with limited accessibility.

First Experiences with the Deformation Analysis of a Large Dam Combining Laserscanning and High-accuracy Surveying
Monitoring the static and dynamic behaviour of large dams has always been a topic of great importance, due to the impact these structures have on the whole landscape where they are built. Many instruments and surveying methods have been applied so far in order to continuously access to the safety of this kind of huge structures. However, the common approach in a lot of developments has been foc...
متن کاملGeoreferencing of Terrestrial Laserscanner Data for Applications in Architectural Modelling
Commonly several measurements originating from different sensor systems and stations are combined in order to completely model an architectural site. An important step preceding data fusion is the geometric alignment of the measurements with a geodetic coordinate system, or in other words georeferencing the measurements. This paper investigates methods for the georeferencing of terrestrial lase...
متن کاملMeasurement of Structural Deformation using Terrestrial Laser Scanners
Three deformation measurement experiments have been undertaken where, in each experiment, a structure was subject to controlled loading. Terrestrial laser scanners (TLSs) were used to make measurements at critical intervals during each load test. TLSs, which are a relatively recent innovation, are capable of rapidly capturing thousands of three dimensional points over the surface of an object. ...
متن کاملExtraction of Non-forest Trees for Biomass Assessment Based on Airborne and Terrestrial LiDAR Data
The main goal of the federal funded project ‘LiDAR based biomass assessment’ is the nationwide investigation of the biomass potential coming from wood cuttings of non-forest trees. In this context, first and last pulse airborne laserscanning (F+L) data serve as preferred database. First of all, mandatory field calibrations are performed for pre-defined grove types. For this purpose, selected re...
متن کاملEvaluating Uncertainties of Laserscanner Measurements by Using a Joint Monte Carlo and Fuzzy Approach
The evaluation of uncertainties according to the „„Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement‟‟ is presented in this study based on a novel Fuzzy-randomvariables approach. Whereas the classically proposed methods like Monte Carlo techniques treat all uncertainties as having a random nature, the fuzzy technique distinguishes between aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties. The aleator...
